Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell traveled along with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss matters like the Iran Contra controversy.
