Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was created in Miami, Florida
on the 30th November 1977. American electro-house musician Record producer,
D.J. Music executive. He is the third of Chizuru and Rocky Aoki's kids. His
father was a wrestler, who also founded the restaurant chain Benihana. He has
two older siblings, a sister Kana (who is often referred to Grace, her middle
name) Grace) and brother Kevin (owner of the Doraku Sushi restaurant).
Half-sister Devon Aoki is a model and actress. He was born in Newport Beach and
graduated from Newport Harbor High School with an 1995 B.A. in badminton. He
was a student at UC Santa Barbara and graduated with two B.A. He was awarded
two degrees, one in sociology and one in feminist studies. He was a student at
the college who made records on his own and held underground concerts in his
Biko space at Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative. The Pickle Patch was
born as a concert venue. He was also active in student protests at UCSB and was
the founding member of an Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League chapter on
campus. In his early 20s Dim Mak had founded his own record label which he
named Dim Mak after his childhood hero Bruce Lee. He came out with I'm In the
House in March 2010 in collaboration with Zuper Blahq, the alter-ego of
will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas. It was ranked the No. 29 in the U.K.
singles chart in the first week. It then entered the U.K. Dance Chart &
the U.K. Indie Chart, peaking within the top 5 on both charts. The track was
featured on the MTV series Jersey Shore. It also was included in Piranha, the
feature film Piranha and also in the trailer for Think Like A Man.
Producer-songwriter Lucas Secon confirmed in a May 2010 interview w/
HitQuarters that he & Rivers Cuomo had recently worked with Aoki on the
single. In 2012, Pollstar designated him as the highest grossing dance artist
in North America from tours. He has collaborated with artists like Iggy Azalea,
Afrojack, LMFAO, Linkin Park, Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke,
BTS, Louis Tomlinson, Rise Against, Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. He is
well-known for his remixes with artists like Kid Cudi.
