Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood within The West Island of Montreal is the home of a variety of small businesses. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal however, in reality the West Island is home to every aspect of the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there as well. However, she only was there for a brief period. Brugel began her life in Courtice outside of Oshawa. She was aspiring to be an instructor in her first year but because of the speed of growth, she surpassed all her dancing partners. In an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall, even when she was wearing heels. Once I outgrew the male partners that I was dancing with, I decided to quit. Dancers who have been in the past often go towards acting. In the case of Brugel it was the support of an instructor in drama at her high school which led her in the direction she needed. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. The teacher advised her to audition for a character in the school's annual production. In the end, she was chosen to play Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the twenty years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows in both the small and the large screens. She attracted the most media attention after she got the role of Rita on the award-winning TV series, The Handmaid's Tale
