Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired blue-eyed woman with a lively personality. Her birth name is Margaret Mary Emily Hyra to Susan (Duggan) who was the daughter of an English teacher, and one-time actress. Harry Hyra was a math teacher. Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German, and German of German descent. "Hyra", her maternal grandmother's maiden name is Ruthenian. Meg graduated from Bethel high school, Bethel in June 1979. She relocated to New York and majored as journalist at New York University. Meg Ryan as her name change, started acting in order to earn money as she finished her studies. In 1981, she made her big screen debut with the role of Candice Bergen's daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981). She auditioned and was cast as Betsy in the daytime television soap As the World Turns (1956). She was a part of the cast from 1982 until 1984. Meg also had a part in the TV show One of the Boys (1982) However, this show was soon canceled. In 1984, she moved to Hollywood, and was offered a position with the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg was a part-time actress in Top Gun (1986), and then was cast in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) In which she appeared alongside Dennis Quaid. In D.O.A.'s remake, she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. (1988) and was married in Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg was in When Harry Met Sally... (1989), which made the scene in the restaurant famous. Meg was nominated twice for the Golden Globe and BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She was back with Tom in the critically acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe. Meg decided that she would be different from her peers in 1994 by playing the character of Meg as a mother and wife who is alcoholic in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Meg returned to her role as "cute" following the film's release with I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1995). People Magazine named Meg "Woman Of The Year" in 1994, and she was awarded the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award.
